Scot Mertz, Hachidan (8th Degree Black Belt) Kyoshi
Scot Mertz has been training in the martial arts since his youth and began training in 1983 in Gojuryu karate. In addition to Gojuryu, Scot has trained in Shorinryu, Ryueiryu, Shotokan, Ninjutsu, and Kendo. In addition to training, Scot has also conducted a lot of research into Okinawan marital arts and culture, and even runs virtual tours on Okigojuryu.
Some of Scot's more prominent instructors include: Yagi Meitoku, Kurashita Eiki, and Toyama Zenshu who has been Scot's instructor since 2012. Scot presently holds a 8th degree Black Belt in Okinawan Gojuryu and holds a Kyoshi teaching license. In 2014 Scot also published a curriculum and registered a new style with the All Japan Budo Association called Ryuhoryu.
